The Moho Collective

$10/door. Doors at 8pm. Music at 8:30pm
21+

The Moho Collective eschews simple classification, professing that creativity is a living, flowing art form. The instrumental trio, from Rochester, New York, expresses this through dynamic song structures, driving rhythms, and a diverse array of influences such as jazz, funk, rock, and folk, as well as the traditional music of the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. The Moho's sonic arsenal incorporates guitar and steel guitars from Kurt Johnson, bass from Justin Rister, and an ever changing palette of worldly traditional and not-so-traditional sounds from percussionist Ryan Barclay. All three also incorporate an array of found sounds, effects, and samples. And as much as improvisation and creativity flow from the music itself, a major part of their vision is community art, whether from contributing musicians or visual arts created during live shows. The easiest and purest description, then, would be that The Moho Collective is an art band, always eager to push art further.
